Compared to its predecessor, the new tube gas storage facility on the premises of Saarstahl AG in Neunkirchen – “successor” to the gasometer that was dismantled in June of this year – saves the energy equivalent of roughly 600 Neunkirchen households per year, or 2,500,000 kWh.

Saving energy and increasing efficiency with ESTA

Supervisory Board lays groundwork for the future – identical executive management for SHS, Dillinger and Saarstahl
As part of the ongoing strategy process, the Supervisory Board of SHS - Stahl-Holding-Saar (SHS) decided at its meeting yesterday in favor of identical staffing for the management of SHS - Stahl-Holding-Saar as well as that of the Boards of Directors of Aktien-Gesellschaft der Dillinger Hüttenwerke (Dillinger) and Saarstahl AG. Dr. Günter Luxenburger of Dillinger, and Dr. Klaus Richter of Saarstahl, both Sales Directors for their respective companies, were appointed as additional Managing Directors of SHS, effective 1 July 2020. The two Sales Directors will continue to perform their functions at Dillinger and Saarstahl, respectively. As of 1 July 2020, the SHS Board of Management will therefore consist of Tim Hartmann, Chairman; Martin Baues; Jörg Disteldorf (as the designated successor to Peter Schweda); Dr. Günter Luxenburger; and Dr. Klaus Richter.

The new training year is beginning: A total of 159 young people start their careers today at Saarstahl AG and AG der Dillinger Hüttenwerke. At Saarstahl, 76 trainees are beginning a new phase of their lives: 68 in technical and industrial fields and 8 in business-related fields. Dillinger has recruited 83 trainees this year, with 78 of them in technical and industrial fields and 5 in business-related fields. The group includes 22 women and 12 participants in the intercultural BEST 2.0 career-entry program.⃰ Saarland’s steel industry now employs 563 trainees (Dillinger: 273; Saarstahl: 290) across all training years.

Key figures for the 2018 financial year of the Dillinger Group
For the Dillinger Group – Aktien-Gesellschaft der Dillinger Hüttenwerke (Dillinger) with its subsidiaries – the subdued outlook for 2018 has been confirmed: Demand in some key customer segments – such as the line pipe and the offshore wind power market – declined in 2018 but was partially offset by higher sales of normal plate in a wide variety of segments. Since the middle of November 2017, construction work on the new continuous casting system S1 in the steel plant of Saarstahl has been running at full speed. The project represents a total investment of 100 million euros and requires that all tasks be coordinated with the greatest precision to ensure that the system can go into operation according to schedule at the end of 2019.

Following the announcement of Dr. Michael Müller (63) and Fred Metzken (62) at the beginning of February that they are going to withdraw from the operative business as of 31 August 2018, the committees of the Supervisory Board of SHS - Stahl-Holding-Saar GmbH & Co KGaA (SHS), Aktien-Gesellschaft der Dillinger Hüttenwerke (Dillinger), DHS – Dillinger Hütte Saarstahl AG (DHS) and Saarstahl AG held consultations regarding the succession and passed the corresponding resolutions in their respective meetings on 8th and 9th March. At SHS level, Tim Hartmann (49) was appointed as Chairman of the Management Board of SHS - Stahl-Holding-Saar with effect from 1 September 2018 for a period of 5 years. Mr Hartmann will also take on responsibility for Finance. Furthermore, it was resolved to reappoint Dr. Bernd Münnich and Peter Schweda as Members of the Management Board with effect from 1 January 2019.

A group of 139 young people started their working lives today with Saarstahl AG and AG der Dillinger Hüttenwerke (Dillinger). The group includes 15 women and 17 participants in the intercultural BEST 2.0 career-entry program.⃰ At Saarstahl, 73 trainees are beginning a new phase of their lives: 67 in technical and industrial fields and 6 in business-related fields. Dillinger is employing 66 trainees this year, including 62 in technical and industrial fields and four in business-related fields. Saarland’s steel industry currently employs a total of 501 trainees when all class years are combined (Dillinger: 241; Saarstahl: 260).

Völklingen, 6th June 2014 – After the major investment projects of the previous years, the most recent of which was the building of the new secondary metallurgy in the steelmaking plant, Saarstahl is continuing its modernisation programme with further investments in the rolling mills in Völklingen and Burbach. The CEO of Saarstahl, Dr Karlheinz Blessing commented on the investments “With these next phases of investment, we are aiming to strengthen strategically important products for the automotive industry and mechanical engineering branches and to be more flexible in reacting to the market”. From 2008 until today, Saarstahl (including Saarschmiede) will thus have invested around 1.1 billion euros.

(SHS, formerly: SHS - Struktur-Holding-Stahl) – as a direct resp. indirect majority shareholder of both companies – will undertake tasks for Saarland’s steel industry actively as well as identify and exploit additional synergies.

The shareholders of DHS – Dillinger Hütte Saarstahl AG (ArcelorMittal, SHS-Struktur-Holding-Stahl GmbH & Co. KG aA and Saarstahl AG) as well as the supervisory board of the companies have agreed to acquire 21.17 % of shares in DHS – Dillinger Hütte Saarstahl AG which were formerly owned by ArcelorMittal.
